Parafield Gardens High School STEM, Parafield Gardens
Cleverly adapting something old and creating a contemporary and collaborative learning environment
The South Australian Government’s, STEM Works education program aims to provide teachers with the facilities required to inspire innovation and creativity, stimulate imagination, and challenge students.
The architecture for the STEM works for Parafield Gardens High School included; the refurbishment of the ground and first floor of a two-storey 1960’s building, the provision of a lift and a digital art suite upgrade. With the main works for this Tectvs designed project, valued at $2,500,000, including; the demolition of interior brick and lightweight partitions, reconfiguration and creation of 14 state of the art mathematics classrooms and laboratories, and a large open planned area specifically designed to encourage collaboration between the students and their teachers.
The Tectvs design solution featured lightweight, glazed partitioning allowing light into all learning spaces and included a new modern, contemporary fitout. We worked successfully and collaboratively with all stakeholders to interpret and meet the school’s vision, delivering both functional and successful architecture.
